Denise Despeyroux is an Uruguayan, Spain-based playwright and director. Her first text, Terapia, won the prestigious Premio de Teatro Federico García Lorca in 2005, in 2010 she won the prize for best performance at the 15th Mostra de Teatre in Barcelona and her works have been shortlisted twice for the Premio Max. Her Carne Viva (2015) was considered the best fringe piece by newspaper El Mundo, and has been running for two years. Her plays have been shown in Madrid, Barcelona, Buenos Aires and Montevideo. Ternura Negra debuted in Madrid in 2015, as part of the festival Surge Madrid.
